Today, we will do the following:

1. Talk about the Podcasts you listened to from the Technology Technology Blog.
2. Get together in groups.
3. Start making an outline for the podcasts.

I apologize for the time crunch but we only have 3 class meeting left after today and we have to get the podcasts done, do Foliotek and do a final.

Write a paragraph about each one that you listen to and discuss what you think about the podcast in general and give pros and cons about each one. For Wednesday,

1. Read this article Txting away ur education and post a paragraph about your reaction to the article.

2. We will talk about this blog and the one that was due Monday.

3. We will do our professional blogs.

4. We will pick our podcasting topics.

5. We need to start picking our podcasting topics. Look at the following list and choose three that you like in order of preference. If you need more information on anyone of them let me know. I want all of you to email me gtashbin@usouthal.edu
with your top three choices. I will assign groups for the podcasting project. We will begin working on them next week.

Each student will participate in the production of a 15 minute (approximate) Podcast with two or three other students. These Podcasts will be conversations among the participants covering one of the following topics:

1. My experiences with Blogging and how it could be useful to me as a teacher
2. Interesting Blogs I have located and reviewed from International Schools
3. Interesting Blogs I have located and reviewed from schools in the United States
4. A review of some of the educational support materials for Elementary Teachers found on iTunes
5. A review of some of the educational support materials for High School teachers found on iTunes
6. Pick of the Day: Source Materials for Elementary Teachers on the web
7. Pick of the Day: Source Materials for High School Teachers on the world wide web
8. Can Facebook be used as an educational tool? A discussion.
9. Can YouTube be used as an educational tube? A discussion.
10. Examining the Strange thesis that students now are listener/watchers and not reader/writers. How accurate is that claim? Can include an interview with Dr. Strange if desired.
11. Strange also argues that teachers must teach students to contribute to the development of materials that are listened to and watched. How realistic is that in the schools in which I will teach? Can include an interview with Dr. Strange if desired.
12. Alabama has begun a program to provide distant learning to high school students called ACCESS. How does it work? How useful is it likely to be?
13. Dr. Strange says he is against “burp back education.” How can it be eliminated in my classes when I begin to teach?
14. Pick of the Day: Useful internet sites for Elementary Teachers.
15. Pick of the Day: Useful internet sites for High School Teachers.
16. My classes at South: How is technology used in them?

23. Interview Dr. Philip Feldman (early technology adopter) about educational technology. Can include snippets of a 1988 interview of him about educational technology. Can focus on past, present or future. (TT 9 only).
24. Interview Dr. Charles Guest (Chair of Professional Studies Department) on mutually agreed upon topic. TT 2 only.
25. Our crystal ball: Speculations on the “future classroom.” Interview Dr. Strange before (or during) presentation. Emphasis should be on your ideas, however.
26. Interview of Mr. C of Nolo, MO –NOTE: planning and testing of chat audio and video capabilities (with assistance of Dr. Strange) will be required.
27. Interview Dr. Eddie Shaw about how he sees technology being introduced into the USA Department of Leadership and Teacher Education.

1. We will have a guest lecturer teach us how to use AUDACITY (Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.) We will use AUDACITY to develop our podcasts.

There is no blog due today. I was unexpectedly sick yesterday and did not make it into work. I was going to post a blog assignment due today but was down most of the day.

We will discuss the blog assignment No "BurpBack" Education!. http://strangejpb.blogspot.com/2008/10/no-back-education_22.html .I want you to read this very interesting and powerful reflection by Dr. Strange. Post a blog about how you feel after reading this reflection. This is one of the many reflections that Dr. Strange has been using in revamping EDM 310. As future teachers, let us know what you think.

2. We will spend most of Wednesday preparing for our Google Presentations in class.

I wanted to say thank you for such a good class on Wednesday. We had a great discussion and I look forward to seeing all of your links to interesting articles pertaining to technology or issues that are interesting for this course. I have graded all of the material from this week and it is posted in eCollege. Take a look at it and let me know if you have any questions.

BLOG ASSIGNMENTS

1. Search the web for at least two examples in the United States of schools or teachers using blogs in K-12 classrooms. Review at least two sites that you find and write a paragraph on each that gives the other students a sense of how blogs are being used in the examples that you find. For example, if you find a school in Minnesota that is using blogs, summarize their use in five or six sentences. Do the same for another example. Include in your post links that work to the sites that you find. ATQS (3)(c) 1.(iii); (3)(c) 4.(i); (3)(c) 4.(ii)

2. Search the web for at least two INTERNATIONAL schools or teachers using blogs in K-12 classrooms. Write a summary for each site in the same manner that you used for U.S. blogs. Include in your post links that work to the sites that you find.

First Blog Assignment

I enjoyed meeting everyone and I think this class will be a great experience and alot of fun this semester.

Try and get your gmail accounts and your blogs set up as soon as possible. Don't forget to send me an email with the URL for your blogs before Monday.

For Monday June 1st, the first 2 blog assignments are the following:

1. Review the current and emerging state initiatives and programs including, but not limited to, Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) and the Alabama Connecting Classroom, Educators and Students Statewide (ACCESS) program and their relationship to student achievement. ATQS(5)(c) 3.(i)

Start by doing a search in Google. Examine the material that is available at http://alex.state.al.us Read the materials provided.

For the blog post due Jun 1st, write two or more paragraphs in which you describe ALEX and the resources available to teachers well enough so that someone unfamiliar with ALEX would understand what it is and how it works. Then provide the reader with your thoughts as to the usefulness of ALEX to you when you begin teaching.
